ALICE

The definition of ALICE is, “Households that earn more than the federal poverty Level, but less than the basic cost of living.”
ALICE are people working but still struggling to afford basic needs. In Lawrence County, 42 percent of the population are considered ALICE families. We know that since COVID-19 that number has increased substantially.
ALICE workers are maintainers and frontline workers. They care for the workforce and build and maintain the infrastructure.
In Lawrence County, 80 percent of renters make less than $20,000 annually.
ALICE families are one paycheck away from tragedy.
ALICE families lack savings, and stable, viable employment.
